Mini Ex Backhoe Operator
Summary:
The Mini Excavator and Backhoe Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy equipment to support underground utility installation, trenching, grading, and site development activities. This role requires precision, strong situational awareness, and the ability to work closely with field crews to meet project timelines and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate mini excavators and backhoes for trenching, digging, grading, and backfilling
- Excavate for underground electrical, conduit, water, sewer, and drainage systems
- Perform fine grading and finish work around structures and utilities
- Load trucks and move materials safely and efficiently
- Read and interpret site plans, blueprints, and grade stakes
- Locate and protect existing underground utilities
- Perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Communicate clearly with foremen, supervisors, and ground personnel
- Follow OSHA and company safety protocols at all times
Required Qualifications:
- 2+ years operating mini excavators and/or backhoes in a construction environment
- Experience with underground utility installation preferred
- Ability to read construction drawings and understand grades
- Knowledge of trench safety and soil conditions
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required)
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, climb, lift (up to 50 lbs), and operate equipment for extended periods

- Tolerance for heat, cold, dust, and uneven terrain
