The HUB

In 2022, the University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) opened an exciting new addition to its campus—The Hub, a state-of-the-art dining hall spanning over 18,000 square feet of contemporary architecture and student-centric amenities. Designed by Tipton Associates, the facility reinvigorates the dining experience for ULM students, offering not only nourishment but also a vibrant social hub where students can gather, study, and conveniently dine and purchase groceries.

With seating for over 600 people, the furnishings were carefully selected to create an inviting and comfortable environment that could withstand high-traffic use while remaining within the project’s budget. Across its three dining areas, The Hub offers a mix of lounge areas, banquette seating, communal tables, areas for smaller groups and outdoor seating. A mezzanine provides students with additional meeting and study areas, which adds to the versatility of the space and encourages collaboration and camaraderie among students. A glass curtainwall allows natural light to fill the interior, and the abundance of outdoor furniture also encourages connection to nature to enhance students’ well-being.

Whether it’s grabbing a quick bite, studying alone or in groups, or simply finding a serene spot to relax, The Hub caters to all. Extending the campus’ academic core, it fosters a welcoming, casual atmosphere where students can unwind and recharge. A joint project involving both the university and its dining provider, this facility has been strategically designed to unite their missions and values. The building is a reflection of the university’s dedication to enhancing the student experience beyond academics and is positioned to serve the on-campus community, commuters and guests of ULM.
